Earlier this fall, the Real Estate Standards Organization embraced Green MLS efforts which are improving data on green and energy efficient homes. It’s a beautiful thing when projects are compatible! RESO’s release 
confirmed that their data standards support the National Association of Realtors’ Green MLS Toolkit.
Multiple Listing Service (MLS) are required to adopt RESO’s data standard. So the parallel efforts mean there is now a shortcut to an easy way to implement green fields, and to do it in a RESO-compliant manner. The data design is outlined in Step 4 of the Green MLS Toolkit, “Create the Green MLS Platform”. The same fields listed in Step 4 are also included in RESO’s Data Dictionary. Both are projects are industry collaborative efforts.
The big news is that MLS that have been holding off on implementing Green MLS fields now have a standard way to do it. Bigger news is that because the fields are in RESO, vendors can implement these fields on their end, drastically reducing implementation scope and budget for their clients.
