Regenerative Homes? Codes that Drive Value? It’s all in Vision 2020

Kudos to EcoHome Magazine for launching Vision 2020. They’ve enlisted 10 visionaries on 10 different topics to assess the next nine years and define what these critical areas of sustainability will look like.  After a year of assessment the vision is here – and it’s very thought-provoking.

Some highlights:

  • Homes that go beyond green and go beyond sustainable to actually regenerate the resources they use.  Bob Berkebile defines the evolution in Regenerative Housing by 2020.
  • Energy codes are evolving, but not being enforced.  This path means a future where we miss $40 billion in annual energy savings!  Cliff Majersik outlines a vision for code compliance as A Virtuous Cycle where code compliance upfront leads to value during resale down the road.
  • Everything is in place to build homes that are affordable, efficient, comfortable, healthy, and durable.  Sam Rashkin outlines how codes, labels and rating systems provide the checks and balances to revamp the housing industry and deliver these better homes to consumers.

This is not just a must-read, it’s an inspiration for your own contribution to Vision 2020. I’m honored to have contributed to the process!
