Washer Recs for IL Appliance Rebates

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

If you are shopping for a new washing machine to earn an ENERGY STAR appliance rebate later this month, here are some things to consider.
*  First, a note on dryers.  The nature of a dryer means they are not ENERGY STAR rated.  However, buying a dryer with a moisture sensor does help conserve energy.
*  Another [...]

Are front-load washers really that great for the environment?

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

When choosing an efficient washing machine, the most important question is…What shade of green are you?  I have found a big issue as a green blogger, and a washing machine user.  That issue is mildew.  If you are an energy efficient shade of green then a front-load washer is an easy answer.  If you are [...]

Friday, March 26th, 2010

It’s one thing to earn 15% off your new fridge through the State of Illinois ENERGY STAR rebate program. It’s another to get a great, quality fridge that will save you money.  So how do you find a great fridge?
First, understand what features to look for.  Recommendations are pretty consistent:

Lessons with the Tax Assessor

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

York Township recently completed hearings on tax assessment appeals for the current tax cycle.  The next appeal cycle doesn’t open until the fall, but it’s a good time review how the appeal cycle works, and how I can help!
Before Thanksgiving the Township publishes new assessed values.  Appeals are due within 30 days from the publish [...]

Tracking the Census (…and Energy Efficiency?) in Elmhurst

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Plan Now! IL Appliance Rebates Will Go Fast!

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

So I am declaring Friday April 16th “Triple-dip Day”.  It’s the first day of rebates from the State of Illinois towards ENERGY STAR appliances.  That’s the first dip.  Sounds like many manufacturers and retailers will be offering additional incentives for consumers who take advantage of the program.  There’s the second and third dips!
The Earth Day program [...]

St. Patrick’s Parade – a highlight of family-friendly Elmhurst!

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

Yesterday’s weather was reminiscent of Ireland, but not ideal for a St. Patrick’s Day parade.  Despite the drizzle, Spring Road was once again packed with families taking in the annual parade, which I assume is now the 2nd biggest in Illinois!
The photos from the parade are already up on the Spring Road website.  It’s a great collection [...]

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

C’mon…admit it.  Your current home is feeling a little cramped, you’re sure you want to stay in award-winning Sandburg school district and you’d buy…if you didn’t have to sell.  So why sell?  Why not trade-up instead?   The seller at 400 S. Washington in Elmhurst will entertain offers that include a trade for your smaller home in Hawthorne or [...]
